Following the launch of the integrated web interface for the JOYNED AS1_EVK, we are adding another useful feature: real-time Power over Ethernet monitoring.
The new PoE overview gives users immediate insight into power delivery across the switch - directly from the web browser and without installing or configuring additional software.
What Is Power over Ethernet?
Power over Ethernet, usually called PoE, carries electrical power and network data through the same Ethernet cable. This reduces cabling, removes the need for separate local power supplies and makes connected devices easier to deploy exactly where they are needed.
In professional audio systems, PoE is commonly used to power devices such as wireless microphone receivers, networked audio converter boxes and personal monitoring units.
This is useful in live audio, touring and fixed installations, where reducing the number of cables and power adapters can make systems faster to deploy and easier to maintain.
A Clear Overview of PoE Status
The first version of the PoE monitor added to the AS1_EVK web interface provides an overview of the most important PoE information:
- Power requested by the connected device on each RJ45 port
- Whether the requested power was granted after negotiation
- Actual power consumption on each port
- Monitoring of the switch’s main PoE supply voltage
This makes it easy to confirm that connected devices have negotiated the expected power and are operating normally. It can also help technicians quickly identify insufficient power, unexpected consumption or a problem with the main PoE supply.
No Setup Required
There is nothing for the user to configure. PoE monitoring is available automatically through the AS1_EVK web interface.
For professionals working in time-critical environments, every unnecessary setup step creates friction and uncertainty.
